Safety Training For Operators

The safety training course you require needs to be relevant for your industry. Therefore we have created four different courses that meet the needs of operators working in all industries. Each is a thorough and professional course delivered in an exciting and informative style that creates awareness of the hazards and dangers and provides delegates with advice and recommendations in avoiding injury through correct procedures and the use of personal protective equipment.


Each training course is designed to meet the requirements for training in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment regulations 1998 (PUWER 1998) for safety in the use of abrasive wheels and discs.


The training is conducted by a senior member of staff with many years experience in the abrasive industry. The training is fully interactive with delegates encouraged to demonstrate their awareness of safety in the use of abrasive wheels.


Each training course includes detailed notes, instructions and certificate of attendance.

Safety training for operators of angle grinders, chop saws, die grinders and bench/pedestal grinders

Duration:

Up to 4 hours.


Aim and objective:

The course is designed for operators that may work with any of the following:

  • angle grinders
  • chop saws
  • die grinders
  • bench and pedestal grinders.

On completion delegates will have had training in the safe and efficient use of abrasive wheels and discs in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998).

All delegates will be provided with comprehensive course notes and have access to post tutorial support from our freephone help-line.


Who should attend:

Ideal for delegates working with the machines mentioned that require training in the safe use of abrasive wheels and discs. Suitable for delegates working in fabrication, general engineering, automotive workshops and maintenance departments in all industries. Prior knowledge of working with abrasives is desirable but is not essential.


Location:

Direct on your premises with your operators and most importantly with your machines.


Personal protective equipment:

Delegates are expected to be provided with personal protective equipment. The trainer will provide his own personal protective equipment and will make recommendations as to the level of personal protective equipment required for delegates to complete their work safely.

Duration:

Up to 4 hours.


Aim and objective:

The course is designed for operators that work with angle grinders and/or chop saws and/or petrol saws. On completion delegates will have had training in the safe and efficient use of abrasive wheels and discs in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998).All delegates will have access to post tutorial support from our freephone helpline. Who should attend:

Ideal for delegates working with the machines mentioned that require training  in the safe use of abrasive wheels and discs. Suitable for delegates working in the rail, building services and construction industry. Prior knowledge of working with abrasives is desirable but is not essential.

Location:

Direct on your premises with your operators and most importantly with your machines.

The course is designed for operators that work with surface grinders, internal grinders, cylindrical grinders or other precision grinding equipment. On completion delegates will have had training in the safe and efficient use of abrasive wheels in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998). All delegates will have access to post tutorial support from our freephone helpline.

Aim and objective:

The advanced course is designed for operators that work with surface grinders, internal grinders, cylindrical grinders or other precision grinding equipment that require training in balancing, dressing techniques and a greater understanding of the modern abrasive process. On completion delegates will have had training in the safe and efficient use of abrasive wheels in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998). Practical Training

Practical training in cutting, grinding, and sanding.

A practical training course comprising of 5 modules, closely supervised, for delegates keen to learn and put into practise new skills when using abrasives on metals and composites with typically the following equipment:

  • Angle grinders.
  • Bench/pedestal grinders.
  • Chop saws and petrol saws.
  • Die grinders

Aim and Objectives:

Delegates, after completing the course, will have been enabled to have greater understanding, work safer and more efficiently when working with the machines, abrasives and work materials demonstrated.


Who should attend:

The course is open to all regardless of experience but keen to learn new skills and take advantage of exciting developments in abrasive technology. Suitable for operators and supervisors working with angle grinders, chop saws, petrol saws, bench and pedestal grinders. Typical industries building, construction, fabrication, general engineering, automotive workshops and maintenance departments. Delegates will be provided with detailed notes, instructions and a certificate of attendance.

Course Content:

Module 1.

  • Introduction.
  • Risk assessment - What are the risks?
  • Hazards and dangers in the use of abrasive wheels and discs.
  • Personal protective equipment - The right type for the job!

Module 2.

Practical demonstration and instruction followed by delegate participation in the correct mounting of abrasive wheels/discs on the following equipment where appropriate:

  • Portable angle grinders.
  • Bench grinder.
  • Chop saw.

Module 3.

Practical demonstration of grinding, cutting and sanding techniques when using 'Module 2' machinery on the following work-piece materials:

  • Mild steel.
  • Stainless steel.
  • Aluminium.
  • Composite materials.

Module 4.

Practical demonstration of the benefits of grinding, cutting and sanding when using the correct abrasive products from a choice of:

  • Over 5 different types of abrasive grain.
  • Over 10 different backings or bond.
  • Over 20 grit sizes.
  • Various shapes and dimensions.

All to achieve the desired finish, stock removal or speed of process.

Module 5. 

Delegates, under supervision, will have the opportunity of working with the following abrasive products on various work-pieces and machines where appropriate:

  • Cutting/grinding discs.
  • Grinding wheels (including dressing).
  • Spiral bands.
  • Sanding discs.
  • Flap discs and wheels.
  • Surface conditioning discs.


Each module is variable and based on your aims and objectives and the requirements of your workforce.

Training For Supervisors

Safety training for managers, safety officers, purchasing officers and supervisors of operators of grinding and cutting machines.


Each training course includes detailed notes, instructions and certificate of attendance.

Duration:

90 minutes.


Aim and objective:

A thorough and professional course delivered in an exciting and informative style that creates awareness of the hazards and dangers for operators and others. We show how each delegate can be influential in providing a safe working environment for operators. We provide delegates with advice and recommendations in avoiding injury through correct procedures and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

This training course is designed to meet the requirements for training of supervisors and managers in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment regulations 1998 (PUWER 1998) for safety in the use of abrasive wheels and discs.


Regulation 9 of PUWER 1998 states:

Every employer shall ensure that any of his employees who supervises or manages the use of work equipment has received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken.


Location:

The content is classroom based and includes multi-media presentations that demonstrate the need for safety in the use of abrasive wheels and discs. It can be taken as an 'add-on' to an existing training course or separately at various venues around the UK.
