WHY HAVE TRAINING?

As with most things in life, the more knowledge and experience gained the more productive that person may be. Therefore the less they have the less productive they will become. However, when it comes to abrasive products, a lack of knowledge and experience gained through a lack of training can end up with dire consequences that could lead to career and life-changing injuries. As for the employer, they may find the cost of an injury to a member of the workforce compounded by a visit from the Health and Safety Executive.

WHY CHOOSE ABTEC?

At Abtec our mission is to provide you our customer with the knowledge and ability to safely and efficiently assess and manage risk when using abrasive wheels and discs. We have completed over 5,000 abrasive wheel and disc safety courses since we started training programmes in 2006.

Each course is designed to meet the specific requirements and abilities of the delegates with delegates encouraged to participate and evaluate in practical applications during training.

All delegates to our training courses have access to a dedicated care-line to answer the type of questions on health, safety and efficiency in the use of abrasive wheels that may arise after formal training has been completed.

We are extremely proud of the fact that our customers choose to have us train their operators perhaps for the first time and then in subsequent years use us to complete refresher courses or courses for new staff.

We cannot guarantee the safety of your workforce by their attendance on one of our training courses. But it remains a proud boast for us that where delegates after some years have had further training with us not one has suffered an injury working with abrasive products. Yet for the delegates who attend for the first time in a group of 6 to 10 you will find at least 1or more have received an injury during their working lifetime. All of these injuries were avoidable.

We explain:

  • Why operators get injured and how to avoid these injuries.
  • How having incorrect, poorly designed or sub-standard PPE can contribute to life-changing injuries.
  • How you can minimise the risk of injury by just making some simple changes.
  • How poorly maintained machinery can influence the condition of a wheel or disc.
  • How can our PPE 'Check List' improve operator safety?
  • Why do some injuries occur to non-operators of cutting and grinding equipment?
  • Why you should never use a disc that’s been used by another person.
  • What maintenance 'checks should be, but very rarely are, made to bench and pedestal grinders.
  • The importance of 'Personal' in PPE.
  • How to understand information found on a wheel, disc or belt.
  • Why abrasive wheel safety training is not only just for operators?
  • How to risk assess prior to grinding or cutting.
  • The person is most likely to be injured while working with abrasive products.
  • How to check how safe your wheel or disc is.

And much more..

All of our training for operators prioritises on the need for practical demonstration and in turn proof of the delegates ability to put the training into action. The training meets and more importantly exceeds the requirements of the P.U.W.E.R. legislation.

Our trainers have Chartered Institute of Environmental Health certification and are specialists in the abrasives industry. The training is conducted by senior staff with many years experience in industry and commerce.
